I read Quibble's post today. He is a Top Contributor and one of my favourate Webmasters from the google webmaster help forum people.
Read his post from here: De-indexed by Google - Unlikely Reasons for the Ultimate Penalty
I do agree with quibble on all of the points, just because I been reading his post from google webmaster help forum, he has done a lot of research about google algorithms, good optimization, bad optimization and penalties.
What more I have noticed is, Google is now much much more advance in terms of ranking sites, they improved their algorithms at the great extent.
In 2011 Google is a different experience, it has almost left behind the traditional approach for looking / judging the sites, they have made a great and huge change....!!!!
If you think that your site has got Deindexed just because you are using shared hosting then it sounds silly this days :D
You need to make sure about the clocking, malware and some anti-seo work done for your site, may be you are not aware of few of the things there on your site which are bad from google point of view, you need to fix it or show to the web spam team that the things you are using or doing, all are perfect, it's neither black-hat technique nor have anything that harm to client's data or privacy.
Please checkout the list which which you need to fix to get your site back in google index:
